Is your morning routine making you want to pull your hair out? There are a few mornings that have stressed me out. I tend to get stressed out when I know that we are in a hurry and need to get out the door quickly. It never fails when we are in a hurry that something always throws a monkey wrench in my morning routine. Lately, I have been struggling to get up in the mornings and wanted to share some tips on how to make everyone’s morning routine less stressful.
Get Everything Ready Before Bedtime
I am guilty of not following this tip and plan on making sure that I get everything ready before bedtime. My kids are guilty of waiting until the last minute to ask for things that they need for the next school day such as signing papers, asking for lunch money, find the missing library book etc. Prepping the night before will help your morning routine run smoothly and help prevent stress.
This morning we were busy looking for my son’s tennis shoes. He took them off yesterday in the car while we were waiting for his brother to get out of school. I tossed them into a tote bag and forgot that I took them out. Anyhow, we spent 5 minutes or more looking for those shoes. Thankfully, we found them.
Keep a Set Bedtime
How many hours of sleep do you need in order to wake up feeling refreshed? You know exactly how many hours that you need on a regular basis. Once you pinpoint the required number of hours that your body needs, then you need to figure out what time that you need to be in bed each night. Then make it a habit of going to bed each night by your set bedtime. Going to bed at the same time will leave you feeling refreshed in the morning and make your morning go smoother.
Avoid Hitting the Snooze Button
Do set your alarm and avoid hitting the snooze button. The snooze button is super tempting and it might seem like a good idea to get those few extra minutes of slumber. However, those extra few minutes of sleep are actually hurting your overall productivity. Hitting the snooze button can leave you feeling groggy and it can take up to an hour and a half to shake it off. So are those extra 5 or 10 minutes worth it?
Eat a Healthy Breakfast
Over the last year, I have always reiterated the importance of eating breakfast every morning. I even suggest eating breakfast that has protein. Eating plenty of protein will help keep you feeling full longer and you will less likely overeat the rest of the day.
With our busy schedules, I totally understand if you don’t want to spend a ton of time preparing a huge breakfast for your family but don’t let that stop you from eating a healthy breakfast every morning. I went grocery shopping at my local Kroger on Sunday afternoon. I was browsing for some new ideas for breakfast and I found Vitatops.
The Deep Chocolate Vitatops are 70% organic. Each chocolate muffin top is made with organic ingredients like whole grain flour, oat flour, chocolate chips and cocoa. You won’t believe that these muffin tops are only 100 calories each.
I popped it in the toaster to give it a crispy feel compared to the microwave. When I sampled the Deep Chocolate Vitatop, I was super impressed and I honestly thought that I was indulging in a higher calorie dessert. Instead, I am indulging in a healthy breakfast to keep me going through the morning. Deep Chocolate Vitatops have 4g of protein, 9g of fiber, 1.5g of fat, and if you are using the weight watchers plan it is only 3 points.
Vitatops come in the following flavors:
- Deep Chocolate
- Velvety Chocolate (sugar-free)
- Wild Blueberry
- Banana Choco Chip
- Chocolate Chip
- Peanut Butter
- Cran Bran

Give Yourself Extra Time to Get Out the Door
I’m a bit of a control freak when it comes to getting out the door in the morning. I always set a time that we have to leave the house by so that I have ample time to get where I am going. My mom taught me that it was always important to be early and it is something that I still practice today. It is something that I hope that my kids pick up on and strive to show up to places early. Plus, you never know when there will be traffic problems or an accident on your route.
As a night owl, mornings have always been a struggle, even though I have been a mom for 20 years. It is even harder now that I have been diagnosed with several chronic illnesses. When school started I made a vow to try to set up a better sleep schedule and I was doing great until my oldest son started a job after the first of the year. This change has attributed to my stress early in the morning and I am planning on putting these morning routine tips to good use so that my morning isn’t stressful anymore.
