What is the number one excuse for not exercising? You probably guessed it fairly easily too. The number one answer is “no time”. I get it you are busy with work, getting the chores done, and other things that fill up your average day. I totally understand if working out is the very last thing that you want to do when you get home from work. However, if you want to workout but struggle with finding the time, you came to the right place.
Today, I wanted to share with you some tips on how to get your workout in throughout the day so that you don’t have to worry about it when you get home from work. Try these 5 ways to workout when you are strapped for time.
Get Up Early
Set your alarm clock and get up a little bit early so that you have plenty of time to get your workout on. There are plenty of things that you can do even if you can only workout for 30 minutes several times a week. If you have to have structure or routine, you can find a 24-hour gym near your home or office so that you can go before work. Don’t forget your work clothes and toiletries so that you can shower after your workout.
Working out at home can be just as beneficial too. Home workouts can include: walking outside or using a treadmill, use workout DVDs, or even dance to your favorite tunes while no one is watching. Plus, a good morning workout will leave you with plenty of energy to get through the day.
Take the Stairs
Instead of taking the elevator at work, opt to take the stairs. It might not feel like much but you have to take more steps when you take the stairs. Step it up a little bit and do several flights of stairs during your break time too. Plus, it burns more calories than jogging.
Use Your Lunch Hour to Your Advantage
I used to spend most of my lunch hour sitting down or playing games on my phone when I worked in the cooperate world. My employer always challenged us each year to get healthy and exercise several times a week. I never felt like I had the time to workout after work so I would use my lunch hour to my advantage. Instead, of sitting down to play games on my phone, I would take 30 minutes of my lunch hour to walk. I didn’t have to give up my time with my family in order to get my workout on. I was even able to lose weight doing this too. Give it a try!
Exercise while Watching Television

Use the time that you normally spend watching your favorite shows on television to work out. You can easily hop on the treadmill, elliptical, or a stationary bike in the comfort of your home. You might have to turn up the volume a little bit to still hear your show. It is a great way to get your workout on while enjoying your favorite show. Plus, you might not even realize how long you have been working out by the time your show is over with.
Use High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) Workouts
Find a few of your favorite HIIT workouts and do them throughout the day. These workouts are perfect for people who don’t have a ton of time to spend on working out or getting fit. Even though these workouts are fast-paced, don’t be fooled by their effectiveness. They are designed to burn more calories. You just need to focus on putting maximum effort with a very short recovery period before moving on to the next thing. Just remember when doing HIIT workouts, that you make sure to keep a good pace and don’t push yourself too hard. Doing so could result in injury especially if you are just beginning. Don’t forget to warm up first!
