Are you planning on attending a local race or an event out of town? It is often easy to forget things that you might need on race day. I suggest begin packing your race day bag a few days in advance so that you have time to grab any items you are missing. Packing your race bag in advance will ensure that you have everything ready to go so that you can grab your race back confidently knowing you have everything that you might need on race day. Don’t forget to pack these 20 must have items your race bag!
Always bring your identification with you to an event. It is good to have in case of an emergency.
Depending on the event that you registered for, most of the races use timing devices that attach to your shoe laces. If they send this to you in advance, don’t forget to pack it in your bag. Then once you get to the race, you can attach it to your shoe or where they recommend it.
If it is super hot outside, I highly suggest that you use a hydration belt so that you have constant access to water. Most races do have refreshment stations placed throughout the race but often times the amount that they serve isn’t enough. You probably won’t have time to keep refilling your drink over and over especially if your finish time matters to you.
Don’t forget to pack the anti-chaffing cream. Leaving this at home can turn out to be a painful experience that you wil definitely remember. Chaffing doesn’t care who you are or what size you are, it happens to almost every runner alike.

I know that you are probably thinking that I am a bit crazy but if you have ever been stuck in a porta-potty line only to discover that they ran out of toilet paper. The last thing you want to do is drip dry or even worse. You don’t have to pack an entire roll especially if you are carrying it with you on a run. Carry a few feet with you for emergencies.
Always carry a few band-aids with you. You never know if you’re going to get a blister or rub an area raw while running. Guys are also known to get bloody nipples because their nipples are constantly rubbing their shirt. You can prevent this by adhering a band-aid to them.
Always Carry a Few Safety Pins
You never know when safety pins will come in handy. They are great for pinning your race bib onto your shirt. Safety pins are also great in case of a bra or other mishaps.
Carry Headbands, Barrettes, or Hair Ties
Always carry several headbands, barrettes, bobby pins, or hair ties in your bag. You never know when you are going to lose one or they are going to break. Plus, your buddy might need one. If you are like me, you probably don’t enjoy running with hair in your face or eyes.
A bandanna is great for keeping your hair out of your face but it is also a great way to stay cool while you are running. Simply get your bandanna wet and wrap it around your neck. You can re-wet it as needed.
Small Amount of Cash
Most of the events have drinks or food that you can purchase after the race. The vendors usually only accept cash so it is important to carry a small amount of cash in your bag.
Always carry your keys with you. Never leave them in your race bag in case you accidentally misplace it.

After a race, you will be sweaty and a towel is a great way to dry off. You can leave it in your car if you don’t need it right away. Grab several towels if you plan on doing a mud or color run, you will need them to help clean off the mud.
If you don’t like feeling sweaty after a race, I highly suggest that you pack some wipes in your bag. You can use them to wipe off and clean off any mud.
Change of Shoes
Always carry a change of shoes with you for after the race. Some runners also like using a different pair of shoes to warm up and cool down in as well. It is best to run in the shoes that are most comfortable. Also, don’t forget a pair of sandals or slip on shoes for after the race.
If you are used to wearing sunglasses when you run, you should make sure that you bring them with you on race day. Sunglasses will help block the sun’s harmful rays from getting in your eyes. Plus, it will help protect bugs from flying into your eyes on race day too.
Don’t forget to apply sun block approximately 30 minutes prior the race. Sunscreen should be reapplied every hour especially since you are sweating.
You will probably be super hungry after you are finished with your race. Make sure that you take several snacks with you so that you can refuel.
When you are running you are sweating profusely, you will need to make sure that you rehydrate using both water and something that will help replenish your electrolytes such as Hammer Nutrition Hammer Gel or Huma Chia Energy Gel.
Change of Clothes
Always carry a change of clothes with you to race events. You never know if you will need to change clothes or not. The last thing you want to do is get your car soiled with sweat, mud, or other grim.
